About Miss Flohr
Hello Classroom B106 Families!
I am honored to take part in your child's education.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I graduated from William Jessup University’s teacher credentialing program in December of 2014 where I earned both my bachelor’s degree and teaching credential at the same time.
I fully believe that students thrive in an environment that is safe and positive, but balanced with high accountability for their work. The goal is for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and become life-long learners.
An amazing class is further made possible by you! If you would like to help out in the classroom in any way, I would love the help. Email me for specific times that work well for you!
RESPECT Class Rules and FIX IT Ticket Policy
To ensure accountability with each student, we have a RESPECT policy in our classroom. If a student is disrespectful to them self or others (distracting teammates, not completing work, shouting out repetitively, etc.), they will be asked to complete a FIX IT Ticket, where they write 1) How they were being disrespectful, and 3 things that they can do to change their behavior so it doesn't happen again. The goal is for students to he held accountable and make better choices the next time the situation arises. They will be asked to have you (the parent) sign the ticket and return it to class the next day. When you (the parent) and I are on the same page, we can help your student be successful and use their time well in 2nd grade!
Homework:
Each night, we ask students to read at least 15 minutes, in order for them to continue to grow as readers! I will be sending out a reading log paird with Pizza Hut's BOOK IT program to earn a free mini pizza each month for reading at home. Also, I ask that students practice their spelling words each week. There will be a worksheet sent home for a little practice each day. Check out the homework link to see this week's spelling words and homework.
If you have time after school, I would encourage you to practice addition and subtraction math facts. Second grade is a crucial year for addition and subtraction, and we will be learning 2 and 3 digit versions of adding and subtracting throughout the year. The better your child knows their facts to 10 or 20, the quicker they will learn how to apply those skills to bigger numbers.
Spelling:
I will be giving spelling tests each Friday. The words will be posted on the homework page each week. If your student gets 14/14 words correct on the Monday pre-test, I will give them a list of challenge words that they will be tested on instead of the regular words on Friday.
Reading:
In order to continue developing fluency, accuracy, and reading rate, it is extremely important that your child reads at least 15 minutes every night/ weeknight, as practice produces progress! Your student can read to you or with you, and you can read to your student too. Reading should be a fun time to explore a variety of books and genres.
Snacks:
We are grant-funded again this year! A snack will be provided during recess each day starting after Labor Day.
Please don’t be a stranger, I would love to keep in communication with every family. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.
